Awards and Performances
2011 was a banner year for my work!
• Luxembourg Pianist/Composer David Ianni performed Richard's Sonata for Piano on Sunday, November 20, 2011, at the Centre Culturel Kinneksbond. This was the premiere performance for any of my solo piano music, and I am thrilled Maestro Ianni was so happily willing to take on the challenge. I was also thrilled to be able to attend the concert through the generous support of KPMG, the concert sponsor, and under the auspices the U.S. Embassy in Luxembourg.
We didn't record the concert, but I will post Maestro Ianni's interpretations of the four movements as they become available. Here is a private, but still impressive, recording of the Second Movement – Presto.
Be sure to catch David Ianni with the Cistercian monks of Heiligenkreuz on their latest chant CD, Amor et Passio, available from Obsculta Music.

• In 2010, Richard’s song cycle, Songs of Edmund Waller for tenor and piano, received its premiere performances and recording by New York Tenor Christopher Preston Thompson. In 2011, it was a featured work on Boston Metro Opera’s Contemporary AmericanaFestival, sung by Boston tenor and BMO organizer, Christopher Aaron Smith.
• Richard’s setting of In the Bleak Midwinter for mixed choir, soprano solo, and organ shared second prize in the 2010 Choral Composition Competition, an annual award from Harold Rosenbaum and The New York Virtuoso Singers, who gave the premiere performance on March 20, 2011. Thanks to soprano Laura Min, organist Walter Hilse, and the choir for a fine and moving performance (click for MP3 recording). The work was originally conceived for, and later completed in memory of, soprano Carolyn Dill Smith, a former Washington area colleague.
